A Tribute to Avon, the heart of the OBX

There are hundreds of thousands of miles of paths in the U.S. to explore on a bicycle. One of my all time favorite places is the 150 miles stretch in North Carolina, especially in and around Avon, North Carolina, where you’ll find what we call the OBX, the Outer Banks. The OBX bike paths extending from Corolla to Ocracoke include picturesque trails through forests next to the water, shoreline routes, and protected corridors through town. Their motto is “Share the Road.” What’s not to like about that!

Paying homage to Avon, North Carolina, our designers have created the Nova bike. Nova spelled backward is ''Avon.'' So you could say that his lightweight foldable bike is our tribute to the great city of Avon.

Weighing in at only 24.5 pounds, the Nova is easy to carry around, which makes it a great commuter bike. Additionally, its compact folding size makes it easy to store in any vehicle. So, it has become the bicycle that is perfect for just about everyone.

When it comes to the components, our quality is top-notch - what you have come to expect from a Downtube bike. The Nova's 8 speed cassette with trigger shift drive train makes traversing through hilly regions an almost effortless process. This bike also features a frame protector, kickstand, water bottle interface, head tube bag system interface, and front derailleur braze on - to allow for either 16sp or 24sp. This makes the frame expandable, so it will grow with you.

You can ride the Nova on any kind of terrain - from the flats to the most challenging hills. We built the Nova to handle anything. This combining of the bike's ability to handle any terrain with extreme mobility makes owning a Nova a great experience. It is truly a bike that you can take anywhere and ride anytime.

As an example of its extreme flexibility, the Nova can be adjusted for use by kids as young as 9-year-olds up to adults 6' 1" tall. The Nova is the definition of a flexible bike - a one size fits all winner.

With its quality parts, unmatched flexibility, and affordable price, the Nova is a folding bike that will give you many years of awesome biking experiences.

New 2022 upgrade available with cold forged cranks, ISIS bottom bracket, disc hubs and mid cage rear derailleur ( which provides more ground clearance ).

Hi, the bike arrived in Victoria today in good condition. Instructions were clear and in no time my wife was riding around on it. The design and build quality is impressive ... nice job!

    Extremely pleased

Posted by Michael Lechter on Sep 4th 2017

Extremely pleased with the Downtube Nova folding bicycle. Living in a condo with two under two, my Walmart bike was relegated to the patio where the harsh Florida weather destroyed it, so I vouched that my next bike purchase would be portable enough to keep inside. The Nova has been a great decision and excellent value. It rides as well as my old standard bike and I can keep it in a concealed car trunk or corner of the closet very easily. It gets a lot of attention, folding bikes are a rarity in South Florida. The green color is nice and dark by the way, like a British racing green, not the aqua teal look of the photos on the site. For under $300 you can't go wrong!

    Can not be beat

Posted by Donovan Finn on Sep 4th 2017

For the price this Nova cannot be beat. I did a LOT of comparison shopping for folding bikes before getting this one. I am very happy with the looks, functionality, light weight, etc. The quality is much higher than I would have expected at this price, given that some of the competing bikes that are much more expensive do not appear to be substantially better, at least on the qualities I was looking for. Also, great customer service and very speedy shipping.

    Great for Trips!

Posted by Diana Fain on Aug 22nd 2017

I purchased a Downtube Nova from you October 2016. I enjoyed the bike with only the 46 front chain ring but wanted to add the double chain rings as per your site. I was successful in completing this change in July 2017 using a 53/42 chainring crankset and have been extremely pleased with the bike. I works perfectly for trips via a car with limited space and allows me to climb hills as well as travel at a higher speed on the bike.
