Our Crown Jewel: A full suspension folding bike w/ top notch components

The Downtube XFS takes folding bike comfort to a whole new level. With its state-of-the-art front and rear suspension system, the XFS is the most comfortable bike we offer. The suspension will absorb the road’s imperfections, which will keep your body fresh. Long rides will seem shorter than ever thanks to its comfort.

The top tier light aluminum frame makes the XFS smooth to ride around the clock. It's also rock-solid when it comes to build quality and has an expandable frame that will grow with you.

The XFS comes fitted with a front dérailleur braze on (with cable routing), disc brake tabs, head tube bag interface, pump interface, kickstand mount, two water bottle braze ons, rack braze ons, and a removable frame protector from below that can act as a kickstand when folded.

All this makes taking the XFS on a trip around town or around the world as convenient as it gets.

The quality of the XFS begins with the suspension system and solid aluminum frame, and extends into every single detail. This includes massive welds, beautiful design, cold forged cranks, and lightweight integrated headset system.

Ride the XFS around and you will instantly feel the quality of the high end 10sp racing drive train. With a performance matching that of the Shimano Deore, this is the best quality drive train you will find on a folding bike under $2000.

Once you try using the brakes, you'll notice how powerful they are. The XFS comes fitted with high-end two finger Tektro levers (with a comfort rubber grip), Tektro V brakes, and matching double-wall aluminum-machined sidewall rims.

The textured rim surface is essential to get optimal braking performance. Other manufacturers still use slick rims which allow the brakes to slide on the rims surface. This bike is also disc brake ready with 6-bolt interfaces on both front and rear hubs, and cable stops for discs.

The stock brake system is ideal for the majority of customers, and better for travelers (disc rotors are likely to bend while folding & unfolding). Please read our disc vs V-brake article to decide which is best for you. Overall, these quality brakes make stopping quick and easy.

Turning the XFS into an 20 or 30-speed bicycle is super easy thanks to the front dérailleur braze on with cable routing, which is included with every XFS folding bike. We use 130BCD cold forged cranks that will accept another chain ring for easy conversion to 20sp. for faster downhill riding. All you have to do is place on a bigger chain ring. Most customers go with 58T-60T big rings.

Even though the XFS is so feature-packed, it is extremely portable. When folded, you can conveniently fit it in any vehicle, boat, or train which makes carrying it around as pleasant as riding it.

The XFS is a steal at under $1500. Folding bikes with similar features are more than twice the price. This is due to our low-cost, customer direct high-value business model.

If you are looking for a premium folding bike with suspension at a bargain price, the XFS is what you are looking for.

After 2 years in storage, was pretty much ready to rides right away!

Posted by Joel Biallas on Jun 22nd 2019

Bout my bike 2 years ago and then had to save up to get married have a wedding etc, then had to try and sell a house. Now that all that is over and Im in a safer neighborhood, I finally took my bike out, pumped up the tires tightened a few bolts, adjusted a few other things and took off on my 1st bike ride in 3+ years! Luckily we have bike lanes on many of the roads nearby so was soon up to speed geeting acquainted with my new ride. Very easy to use shifters and solid pedals made most of the ride easy. I will be looking to upgrade the seat in the near future but other than that I had ZERO issues on the 1st ride. Thanks for making an affordable comfortable and portable ride for use urban cyclists

8FH still going strong for 10 years

Posted by George G on May 28th 2019

My earlier version is equipped with a Strumy-Archer 5 Speed internal hub. Upgraded with a Pletsher kickstand it is almost the perfect ride. As a six foot one inch, I would prefer a 26 inch standard bike except my Downtime can go anywhere in the trunk and with a plush suspension ride is for all intents and purposes an equally enjoyable experience. In the next few months I'm adding Magnic Microlights small contactless dynamo bike lights that mount with the Vbrake pads to add Daytime as well as Nitetime running lights with no batteries. Great bike well made. Kudos to DownTube

    Dream Bike

Posted by Stephen Brazil on Oct 17th 2018

The 9FS is a dream bike for the get-a-way experience. I recently took my 9FS to Reno from Seattle on a train trip. when I arrived I simply unfolded my 9FS and took off to my hotel room for a few days. Don't need to be bothered with a taxi cab, just ride in style.

    Highly Recommended

Posted by Stephen Brazil on Sep 13th 2018

The 9FS is everything I hoped it to be. I am new to folding bikes, but when the train drops me off at my destination I won't be calling a cab. I will ride to the hotel and take another ride sightseeing. Also, I will be riding the intercity too. This yellow bike is tops and I am glad I found it. Yan does a fine job promoting these bikes and it sure sold me. I looked at more than a dozen folding bikes before I bought the 9FS and I rode several in the bike stores too. Bike friday has a good one too but Yan beats them out with the full suspension 9FS. I highly recommend this model 9FS it is sure to please.

Have had a few decent sized rides with the 9FS and so far I love it! Rides nice, fits nice, looks nice, feels nice. Seems to have well built components and frame. Thank you very much as this particular style bike is hard to find.

    Fiesta time

Posted by Rick Ogston on Mar 8th 2018

I rode my bright yellow 9FS for the first time last night in downtown San Antonio. It's Fiesta time and everyone was out celebrating. All eyes, however, turned to me and my new bike when I approached a crowd. Policeman included asked about the bike and were interested. I really like it! It rode nicely even over the rough downtown streets, suspension helping a great deal. I'm really happy with this bike! First ride was great!! Can't beat the quality, particularly for the price. Thanks, Yan!

    Very comfortable ride

Posted by Anatolijus Jukevicius on Sep 4th 2017

Very comfortable ride (thanks to full suspension), easy and quick folding/unfolding, love the fact it has 9 speeds. Sturdy built bike. Was able to mount Bell dashboard (speedometer/odometer) and high power headlight and smartphone mount on steering bar without sacrificing foldability of the bike: when folded neither of accessories touch bike's frame nor scratch it. Couple negative findings: First, when the bike is folded, front brake cable's adjustment nut touches rear fork and if the bike is in vibrating environment (in my case - with me in my truck) - that nut scratches off some paint off rear fork. I hope fork's metal is stainless and it won't rust at that spot where paint is scratched off. I will see if I can adjust front brake handle, so it is pointed more downwards - maybe that way it won't touch rear fork when folded. Second, I did not weigh the bike, but it feels like it is heavier than it looks like by it's size. As I wrote, I did not weigh the bike, so I am not saying weight specs are false. Just, I own another bike, non foldable Trek 1.5c road bike, it is much bigger bike aluminum frame with carbon fiber fork and it feels like both bikes weigh the same, when I would love if my foldable bike would weigh less. I guess, it is hard to have it both ways - comfy full suspension ride and lightweight. Bottom line, it is a good well-built bike offering descent balance between ride comfortability and portability.

    Great bike owned since 2008

Posted by Steve Murray on Sep 4th 2017

I've owned my 9FS for ten years now with no problems., Great durable, comfortable folder that's easy to throw in a car truck and travel with. Upgraded it with Schwalbe tires and BB5 disc brakes and it's a pleasure to ride. You won't find quality folders at this price point anywhere.

    over 5 years now

Posted by Francois Dubuc, Squamish BC Canada on Sep 4th 2017

we bought two FH8 (closest model to 9FS now) bofore setting sails south....after five years on the boat and biking thru Mexico-ElSalvador-Nicaragua-Panama- the caribean island-french polynesia.....I can truly confirm that our downtube are a sturdy, efficient and reliable bike. they are both still on all originals parts, only the SS chain develop some rust (aFter no rinsing from beach ride!) , not even a flat tire after all that milage in developing countries.....i call that lucky....lucky that i bought Downtube!!! .a smooth ride that last.... captain Frank, now riding in Tahiti...
